Running on girl-power: Parkrun celebrates first

The McLean Beach Parkrun celebrated International Women’s Day early at the weekend.

A cool morning was welcomed by about 40 Parkrun veterans and newcomers who ran, walked, or jogged the 5km Beach to Beach Walk trail on Saturday.

In honour of International Women’s Day — which is today — all volunteers were women, and participants were encouraged to bring a female friend.

Event organiser Lynda Barclay, noticed some new faces cross the finishing line and said the event was a success.

‘‘We just wanted to do something a bit different to celebrate,’’ she said.
