The Pop-Up Recording Studios Showcase was performed in front of project partners, Mitchell Shire councillors, family and friends, with plenty of works on display at the Old Kilmore Gaol on June 27.
A wide range of musicians joined Montville Lane Sessions producer David Blake for the pop-up recording studio earlier this year.
The studio was decked out with everything the young performers needed to succeed and record their own music.
The program gives some of the best and brightest musicians in the Mitchell Shire a chance to record their music, their way, before each track is shared with Universal Music Group — an opportunity which could open doors for local talent.
Residents aged between 12 and 24 were given the chance to excel in their craft without stress, as drums, keys, bass and electric guitars were all provided.
Mitchell Shire Council partnered with Montville Lane Sessions, the Bridge Youth Services, Central Ranges Local Learning and Employment Network, Seymour Flexible Learning Centre, Freeza and Universal Music Group to bring this project to life.
Mayor Bill Chisholm said the event was brilliant for young musicians.
‘‘The youth in our community are extremely talented. Whether it is in music or acting, there is plenty of help available for our residents to excel in their craft. I am so proud of how all of the musicians handled themselves during these sessions,’’ he said.
‘‘Not everyone is into sport, so this was a great way to get young people involved in something they love to do. I can’t wait to hear more from all of these talented bands.’’
Artist Katelyn Sullivan, 19, said she had not experienced a studio setting before the pop-up recording studios.
‘‘It is a completely different feel to being on stage live in front of an audience. This experience was wonderful and working with experienced producers was brilliant,’’ she said.
‘‘I have moved around a lot over the years and have been to a few different areas, but I have never experienced an event quite like this one.
‘‘I would like to thank Mitchell Shire Council for this. It was great to go and get a taste of what a career in music will be like.
‘‘I think this was very important for young people who have an interest in music and it is really important they get to experience first-hand what recording music is all about.’’
