The ‘I've Been Everywhere Project’ celebrates the classic song released by Lucky Starr in May 1962 - and covered by so many other music lovers around the country in the 60 years since.
In the lyrics, a hitchhiker tells an accommodating truck driver all the places he's been to in Australia.
This project - a 95-episode podcast series, hosted by Neil Butler and produced by Podversations - explores the towns and cities mentioned.
“We'll chat to a local and find out where the town or suburb is and what it's famous for - apart from being mentioned in I've Been Everywhere,” Mr Butler explains on the project’s website.
For the Deniliquin portion of the project, Mr Butler reached out to the Deniliquin Business Chamber for assistance for interview subjects.
Chamber CEO Kate Pitt said as luck would have it, she was able to point him in the right direction for Jerilderie too.
“Deni Business Chamber became involved because Neil reached out to us to see if we would be interested in being involved, and of course I saw it as a promotional possibility for our region,” she said.
“Neil said he was looking for local characters who could easily speak about the towns mentioned. Basically they had to have knowledge, personality and the ability to converse well on radio.
“Sam Hall immediately came to mind for Deniliquin, and as Jerilderie is my home town I simply spoke with my brother Jamie who still lives there.
“He suggested Teddy Nugent who, like Sam, easily met the criteria required. ”
The episodes are being released daily in the order they come up in the song - although content for some towns have not been finalised yet.
Deniliquin’s episode will air this Sunday, July 20, and Jerilderie next Sunday, July 27.
