Originally planned to be held on June 10 and 11, inquiry panel members were unable to travel to Griffith and Deniliquin due to thick fog.
The Committee on Investment, Industry and Regional Development last week said the hearings would now be held July 22 (Griffith) and July 23 (Deniliquin).
Committee chair and Independent Member for Barwon Roy Butler apologised for the inconvenience caused.
“Unfortunately, due to poor weather, it was not possible for the committee to land in Griffith,” Mr Butler said.
“We know there is a lot of community interest in this inquiry, and there was disappointment that the hearings did not go ahead as originally planned.
"We will make sure that all those invited to attend the original hearings will be offered the chance to speak before the committee at the rescheduled hearings next month.“
The Committee is examining the impacts of the Water Amendment (Restoring Our Rivers) Act 2023 on regional communities.
The committee is holding public hearings across NSW as part of its inquiry, including holding public hearings in the Riverina and Murray areas.
“We understand the importance of hearing directly from regional New South Wales communities,” Mr Butler said.
“The committee received a large number of submissions from the Riverina and Murray areas, and we will ensure these stakeholders have the opportunity to tell us first-hand how changes to water policy have impacted their communities, their local agriculture and their businesses.”
Members of the public interested in the inquiry can follow its progress on the committee's website, where the details of public hearings will be published as they are finalised.
If people would like to be informed when the schedule for the hearings are published, they are also welcome to email the committee at investmentindustry@parliament.nsw.gov.au.
A livestream of the two public hearings will be available on the NSW Parliament website.
