Male and female players will be attending to compete, representing more than 13 countries, including Austria, Belgium, India, Sri Lanka, France, Japan, England and others.
For the stint in Shepparton, these world-class players will be challenging each other for total prizemoney of $6,000, being split evenly between the men’s and women’s categories.
The part Shepparton plays is a relatively small part of a larger operation, it being a section of the Professional Squash Association’s 6K challenger tour event, with other tournaments in Melbourne, Geelong and Bendigo later next month and various places globally.
This tournament will take place from July 3-6 at Goulburn Valley Squash Club.
“This partnership with Squash Victoria and the Goulburn Valley Squash Club continues to strengthen our reputation as the sporting and events capital of regional Australia,” City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali said.
“We welcome the athletes and their supporters to our region and wish them all the best throughout the competition.”
The preliminary rounds will commence on the Thursday, with finals being held Sunday afternoon.
“Greater Shepparton City Council is proud to support this fantastic event, which not only brings world-class sport to our region, but also provides a significant boost to local businesses,” Sali said.
“Events like this fill our cafes, restaurants, accommodation providers and retail stores, delivering real economic benefits to the community.”
