Round seven marked the halfway point of the Goulburn Murray Women and Girls League youth girls season.
In a competition dominated by Murray River clubs, Shepparton Swans have been arguably the region’s best shot at success this year.
The girls from Princess Park had recently secured back-to-back wins, but were given a reality check from ladder leader and undefeated side Moama on Sunday.
At their home ground, the Swans worked hard, but were outplayed by the Magpies, especially in the second half as the visitors motored away to a 62-point win.
Shepparton Swans will have to quickly dust themselves off and focus on the second half of the season.
It is likely only one spot in the top four remains open with seven games to go and three teams (Shepparton United and Nathalia the other two) tied on eight points chasing that last ticket to finals.
Lara Bush and Michelle Truong were the Swans' pair of goal-kickers, while the Magpies' Chelsea-Jade McLeod had a day to remember as she booted five.
Shepparton Swans’ Lexi Anderson was awarded best-on-ground honours for her side.
In other round seven youth girls matches, Nathalia dominated Barooga to the tune of 67 points.
Away from home, the Purples kept the Hawks goalless after quarter-time while piling on 10 more of their own.
The Purples had a trio of hat-trick goal-kickers as Kyah-lilly Connell, Sienna Jorgensen and captain Ariella Vallender enjoyed a bountiful day in front of the big sticks.
Nathalia’s Layla Haberfield was named best-on for her efforts.
Echuca United beat Shepparton United by 46 points at Echuca South Recreation Reserve.
Star Eagle and captain Harper Delamare booted a game-high three majors in the win.
In the senior women competition, Shepparton United defeated Rumbalara by 37 points in a scrappy affair at Deakin Reserve on Sunday.
The Demons had seven individual goal-kickers.
Echuca beat Barooga by 23 points away from home, while Mansfield was handed the four points following a forfeit from Nathalia.
