Liz Polak, a resident of Moama since 2017, was frustrated that her area didn’t have a mail delivery service. Since then, she has been in contact with Ms Ley’s office, advocating for change.
Ms Polak and her family were understandably excited when they heard that a postie would be coming around.
Ms Ley also invited her to the announcement at Moama Post Office on Friday, May 24, vindicating her advocacy efforts over the last seven years.
“Over the years, I’ve been constantly asking Ley’s office to do something, and I’m sure there have been others who have voiced their concern as well,” Ms Polak said.
“I was asking why we couldn’t have a mail service. Others in Moama do, so why not us and our area?
“It was just a back and forth between her office and me over the years; her staff has been really good to communicate with.”
Ms Polak emphasised the inconvenience of not having a mail service in her area of Moama, as important documents would be missed without it.

“Because our area didn’t have a mail service, we couldn’t get deliveries either; we’d have to go to the Moama post office,” she said.
“Some bits of mail don’t get sent to PO boxes, like information from doctors and such, so we ended up not getting some things because we didn’t have a delivery service; it must go to a home address; otherwise, they can’t send it.
“Having a delivery service is a right; we vote and pay taxes just like everyone else.”
Nevertheless, Ms Polak and her family are relieved that they will finally be able to receive mail and deliveries at their home, so much so that they have already purchased their new letterbox.
Ms Polak wanted to thank Ms Ley for delivering on her promise and making life a little easier for Moama residents.
“We were so excited that we went and bought a letterbox yesterday to put out the front,” she said.
“I’m just so happy that after all this time, we finally got mail service. I want to thank Sussan Ley for answering our call; we got there in the end.”
