Reid was superb in the opening three terms, but spent the final quarter on the bench after a tackle ended in him leaving the ground for concussion protocols.
AFL Academy coach, and former Collingwood star, Tarkyn Lockyer said Reid and his family were supported by the medical and wellbeing team.
“HIs family was with him in the rooms moments after the incident,” Lockyer told SEN radio.
Reid had 13 disposals and kicked a goal and, until injured, was a driving force as the Academy kicked four goals in the third term to set up what was a match-winning lead.
The Tongala star, who had played the previous two games with Carlton’s VFL team, won the best-on-ground medal for his performance last month in the Academy game against the Port Adelaide reserves team.
It was a big week for Reid, who was a guest of Fox Footy on the Thursday evening before the game and answered questions about the scrutiny of being touted as the number one draft pick for 2023.
The following day Mitch Dodos and his Coates Talent League Young Guns team won their second outing, this time against Vic Country, by three points after leading by 27 points at half-time.
The 196cm defender was playing against teammates Oliver Poole (Echuca United) and Oskar Smart (Leitchville Gunbower) in the match, both in the Vic Country squad that was missing players involved in the AFL Academy match.
A week earlier the Young Guns had taken on Vic Metro in the series opener, going down by 20 points atop the rain-sodden Trevor Barker Beach Oval.
Dodos is playing as a 19-year-old with the Bendigo Pioneers, but has played two games with the Kyabram senior team in the past month.
Coates Talent League rules concerning “overage’’ players mean he will be spending time in Goulburn Valley senior ranks and with the Pioneers during the season.
