Shepparton company Foott Waste has been tapped by Visy to roll out the scheme across northern Victoria, and will be working with Envirobank recycling, which will provide technology support to the regional operators.
Director Peter Foott said he was excited by the opportunity to continue Foott Waste’s commitment to local communities.
“Providing our local communities the opportunity to recycle their eligible cans and bottles and keep them out of landfill, while earning some extra cash for themselves, their businesses, charities, school and sporting clubs at the same time, is a great win for the communities and the region,” Mr Foott said.
“Victoria’s container deposit scheme is all about reducing landfill and our environmental footprint, and Foott is proud to be part of this innovative program partnering with Visy.”
Mr Foott said the scheme built on the work the company was already doing.
“We’ll be looking for new and innovative ways to engage with local communities to collect as many eligible containers as possible to help in our environmental footprint to provide a more sustainable future,” he said.
“This will be of fantastic benefit to local charities and local businesses alike, with the potential for substantial funds to stay in the region."
Visy container deposit scheme general manager Tim O’Donnell said he was pleased to appoint Foott Waste as one of the depot operators.
“We’re confident that this partnership will deliver the best possible service for northern Victoria residents,” Mr O’Donnell said.
“Trusted by large and small organisations, Foott is one of the smartest and most innovative waste providers across Victoria, and is committed to continuing to lead the way, delivering outstanding customer service and value.”
