In a fourth-quarter snatch and grab, Tatura kicked the decisive goal to send the Saints home without reward as the scores read 5.1 (31) to 3.7 (25) in the host's favour.
After roaring ahead to a 15-point lead at the first break, Benalla was held scoreless in the second as the Bulldogs bullied their way back into the contest.
Tatura fought back to lead 25-24 at the end of the third, setting up a massive final term for the fans to enjoy.
And boy did the hosts deliver.
The Bulldogs delivered a hammer blow to the Saints, kicking the game-defining major to claim all spoils and shoot into third on the ladder.
Former Shepparton United superstar Ruby Williams led the line with two goals for the hosts, while Kelsie Piscioneri, Ellen Hall and Phoebe Clarke got on the board for Benalla.
In the round's other game, Echuca claimed four points by default after Mooroopna forfeited, sending the Murray Bombers to the top.
It will look to continue its blazing hot run of form when taking on the Saints at Benalla Showgrounds this Sunday.
Elsewhere, a Nathalia side fresh from the bye heads to Tatura where the winner will assume second spot, while Mooroopna takes a week off.
