Brilliant knocks from captain Brendan Scott and Andrew McMillan combined with solid contributions across the board helped the Tigers make 9-245 from 80 overs, a total that makes them favourites heading to next Saturday's day two.
Once again, young opener Connor Holland made a start, but was bowled by Tim Looby for 19.
However, after Xavier Chalkley went for 10, the Tigers took over.
Scott and McMillan added a quick 97 runs together before Callan McCabe dismissed the pair, leaving the Tigers 4-153.
But they pushed on; Jack McCarten smashed five boundaries in making 25, Mitch Trevaskis scored 28 and number 10 Patrick Cormican chipped in with 15 not out to help Central Park post the huge score.
McCabe finished with the best figures for the Students, producing a stellar 4-40 in his 19 overs.
It continued great form for McCabe, backing up last weekend's 3-19 with another four wickets to keep building his reputation at his new club.
Nick Breslin (2-75) and Karl Jones (2-41) each chipped in with a couple of wickets, but the Students will need to be at their best next weekend with the bat to chase down the total.
The Students entered the round inside the top six, but would fall outside the finals mix with a loss.
