Toolamba bridge back in action

Toolamba bridge is finally open again after being closed for two months because of flooding.

Motorists were able to use the bridge again from 4pm on Wednesday, December 7.

It had been closed since October 10, meaning Toolamba residents have spent months driving the long way around through Mooroopna whenever they needed to go to Shepparton.

A council spokesperson said the bridge had debris removed from on and around the bridge and it was checked by a structural engineer before it was able to be reopened.

Council’s clean-up team actually completed its assessment sooner than expected, meaning the bridge could reopen before the Christmas rush.

It is the second time the bridge has been closed for months in recent years.

The bridge was closed for six months in 2019 for a $1.6 million strengthening project to be completed.

It only reopened in December 2019 after that closure.

Two other council-operated bridges have also reopened this month after being flood-affected.

Raftery Rd bridge was reopened on December 2, while Watt Rd bridge reopened on December 5 to vehicles under three tonne.
