Supermarket run costs Mooroopna man $750

Prosecutor Leading Senior Constable Chris Cole told the court police saw Davis driving in Benalla Rd, Shepparton on May 19.

When they stopped him in the car park at Shepparton Marketplace they discovered his driver’s licence was disqualified.

Davis told police at the time he was aware his licence was suspended but he “needed to get some shopping”, Leading Sen Constable Cole said.

The court heard his licence was suspended in March and cancelled in April for a traffic infringement.

Representing himself in court, Davis said the incident occurred near the start of COVID-19 restrictions.

“Mooroopna was cleaned out. There was no toilet paper. I had to go to the other side of town,” he said.

Davis has not been able to drive since the incident seven months ago.

He was fined $750, but the magistrate did not order any further imposition on his licence.
