With all junior community sport now permitted under the Victorian Government's recovery plan, the SJSA is free to commence its season for a second time, after it snuck in limited play back in July.
A new seven-round fixture has been released to be played across five weeks, with double-headers on October 17 and 18 and October 24 and 25 to get the season wrapped up as quickly as possible with summer sporting seasons to commence around that same time.
The SJSA has council approval to once again commence its season, to be played as usual at McEwen Reserve.
Association president Peter Hill said throughout the trying times, getting the league's youngsters back on the pitch had always been the priority.
“It's definitely been our hardest year ever, but we just decided we had to make sure we could provide some sort of competition, and the most important thing is just to provide some normality for the kids. We're pretty happy we should be able to complete the season,” he said.
“Our numbers did suffer, but we still had 100 teams that want to be a part of it. We were determined to give the kids something, and the parents also want to see their kids out there playing and doing something normal.”
A strict COVID-19 policy remains in place to provide safe playing conditions for the young athletes.
“We had to write a COVID policy, implement that policy and then basically change it all,” Hill said.
“It's ever-evolving, you can't expect things to be the same one week to the next, you've got to be reactive. I think the executive has done a good job with that this year.”
