Notre Dame College has been crowned the School Sport Victoria state Twenty20 cricket champions after defeating SEDA Parkville during the week.
The Notre Dame College Year 11 and 12 boy's cricket team saluted in Tuesday's grand final in Melbourne by four wickets.
Parkville batted first and went on to post 7-169, with Connor Micel (3-37) and Connor Hangan (2-20) both damaging with the ball in hand.
In the nervous run chase, Notre Dame clinched victory six wickets down in 18.3 overs, with Jai Carn (64 runs) and Aidan Lloyd (51 runs) the stars.
The win follows Notre Dame College's success in the Herald Sun country football cup and the school's title in the School Sport Victoria state soccer competition.
Notre Dame College principal John Cortese was proud of the cricket side and said the way in which they were able to push through adversity on the way to the final.
“The cricket team’s performance in winning the School Sport Victoria competition, that started with over 80 teams participating (in it), is a fantastic performance,” he said.
“The resilience of the team to fight back in several games where the opposition was on top speaks volumes for the character of the players.”
Notre Dame's year-long journey started in March with a win against Wanganui Secondary College, which was followed by a win in the Hume Region Carnival, played in Wangaratta.
A 77-run win against Tallangatta allowed for the local school to contest the region final against Galen College Wangaratta.
Superb bowling efforts from Mitch Black (3-16) and Michel (2-6) were followed by Connor Hangan's superb 37 not out - as Notre Dame won by seven wickets.
In the March 27 quarter-final, Notre Dame defeated Vermont Secondary College by seven wickets, as Andrew Lloyd (55 runs) and Ethan Baxter (52 runs) shone in the run chase.
Tuesday's semi-final win against Grovedale saw Lachie Ash grab 2-9 and score 29 runs as Carn (48 not out) helped push Notre Dame through to the final.
Following the local school's recent success, Cortese praised the efforts of the football and soccer outfits that claimed glory this year too.
“This completes a very successful year for our senior sporting teams, having already won the Herald Sun country football cup in August and the School Sport Victoria state soccer grand final in September,” he said.
“To have three state titles from our Year 11 and 12 cohort in 2019 is something we are very proud of.”
