The group’s first production will be Lenore: A Tale of Mournful and Neverending Remembrance which will be staged in Shepparton in late October and early November, pending funding.
Lenore takes on The Raven, one of the best-known works of Edgar Allan Poe, where a man mourns the loss of his lost love — ‘‘the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels named Lenore’’.
The play imagines the story from Lenore’s point of view.
It is a full-length play, running for about 100 minutes.
There will be two acts and an interval.
It will be staged with a minimalist set, and actors will play double and triple roles.
According to Upstart Productions’ creative director Bianca Stapleton, the company would like actors to portray several characters, both male and female, within the ranges of 20-35 years, and 40-plus years.
People auditioning are asked to prepare a monologue of their choice, to be delivered in a generic American accent.
Auditions will be held on Saturday, May 25, and Monday, May 27, at the Mooroopna Education and Activity Centre, 23 Alexandra St, Mooroopna, from 6.30pm to 9pm.
