Janelle Toomey and Callum Kaka said they had always felt drawn to Euroa since opening Bank Street seven years ago.
Regular customers Danielle Edwards and Adam Palmer soon developed a strong friendship with the pair and the four partners this year opened Northern Republic in Euroa’s old Flour Mill building.
‘‘We sort of all fell in love with each other over our love of food and wine,’’ Ms Toomey said.
‘‘It’s a joy doing this sort of things with people you respect and enjoy being with.’’
The dining experience offers the choice of about 50 varieties of wine from across the northern region as well as some from the northern hemisphere, with reds and whites across the entire spectrum of wines.
‘‘We’re stretching up into the King Valley, stretching across to Heathcote, and naturally we’ve got a really strong focus on the Strathbogie and Goulburn River Valley wine regions,’’ Ms Toomey said.
Wines are coupled with a sputilini (small Italian bites) menu with many items coming from a wood-fired oven.
‘‘I think what we’ve done here is complement the existing venues in town,’’ Mr Palmer said.
‘‘We wanted to be a bit of a grown-up venue; we wanted it to be a place where people could come and relax and share some food and wine together.’’
For the four owners, opening a business in Euroa just made sense.
‘‘We felt that Euroa was going to be our next destination,’’ Ms Toomey said.
‘‘It’s a beautiful town; there’s a lot of beautiful architecture here ... there was a bit of a gravitational pull to the township because of what it had to offer.’’
The owners are busily preparing ahead of the second live performance to take place in the garden with musician Grim Faulkner playing from 4pm tomorrow.
