Man caught driving 27km/h over speed limit

Unaza was detected driving over the speed limit on Murray Valley Hwy at Beverford, north-west of Swan Hill.

Representing himself in court, Unaza said he was new to the area and was going to pick up a new puppy.

He said he did not realise it was an 80 km/h zone as he was paying attention to the road and a GPS.

“I didn’t feel like I was speeding. There were cars in front of me and behind me and I thought I was going at the right speed,” he said.

As well as disqualifying Unaza’s licence for three months, magistrate Peter Dunn placed him on a good behaviour bond for 12 months, with a requirement that he must complete the Cool Heads road safety program.

No conviction was recorded.
