Twelve-year-old Jedah Lee-Wicky-Russell was born here and moved to Melbourne when she was seven.
A representative player for the Lions Basketball Club, Jedah was selected for the Melbourne Warriors Florida USA tour in March.
She is the only Aboriginal girl out of the 25-player squad and her mother Paula said the tour will be experience of a lifetime.
“It opens a lot of doors and she could potentially pursue a future US college opportunity”, she said.
The three-week tour will see the Warriors test themselves against the best players of the same age group in the US.
Jedah and her mother need $10,000 to get to the US, and her grandfather Robert is getting involved.
He will sell everything for under $50, except for big ticket items such as an air conditioner and kid’s motorbike.
While acknowledging people are already giving so much to the current bushfire crisis, Robert said he hoped to raise $1000 and thanked everyone who has donated to Jedah’s campaign so far.
The garage sale will be at at 12 Alfred Ave and Robert said donations can also be made through the Facebook page; ‘Jedah's Basketball Dream experience of a life time’.
