Club Social Bowls Results
Nominated Social Sets Play: Thursday, April 29.
The club have been extremely lucky with the great weather that we have been experiencing during this tournament.
The green is running perfectly which is a huge attraction to the competitors and a credit to the great work done by the Greens Keeper Gary Parker over a long period of time to get the greens to the stage they are currently at.
This is the difference and can be the major reason why the club is enjoying such success over the (almost) winter period.
People want to come to the club to play social bowls and have a great time whilst they are doing so.
People want to come to the club and enjoy their bowls in a relaxed, friendly, social atmosphere and outdoor bowls have the wonderful members who will go out of their way to ensure guests do so.
Thursday Social Sets Play Tournament has been wonderfully received and greatly supported and is now coming to the final stages with week 3 being played on April 29.
Just one week to go will bring this tournament to a close with the final results up for grabs.
Results for week three of the tournament are as follows:
Winners: Barry Pitt, Barry Martin and Jan Martin winning all three sets with 12 points and 32 shots scored.
Runners Up: John Ellis, Andy Lefevre and Gary Presnell once again were consistent winning three sets with 23 shots scored.
Not quite enough to get them a win this week however they still remain the front runners to win the competition.
Once again a wonderful day of bowling was enjoyed by all and the club are now looking forward to next Thursday which is the final day of the tournament.
Only two points separate first and second and there are others not far behind.
Sunday Social Bowls – Sunday, May 2
On this day we wanted to give new and/or inexperienced bowlers a chance to enjoy the wonderful game in a relaxed environment and ‘GIVE LAWN BOWLS A GO’.
It started out with a sausage sizzle wonderfully cooked and presented by volunteers Russell and Faye Cook and the ever grumpy (in a nice way) Malcolm Miller with new bowlers and club members mingling and enjoying the camaraderie.
Thirty bowlers then took to the greens and enjoyed an afternoon of great bowling with 3 games of 6 ends played in short time.
Winners for the day were Gary Presnell, Betty Richmond and Jodi Powell with two wins and a draw and runners up were Trevor Loe, Daryl Richmond and Shannon Magher with 2 wins and 1 loss.
Shannon is a reasonably new bowler and was celebrating his birthday as well.
The club must thank all volunteers who helped set up the day including the Social Bowls Committee Jan Morton, Trevor Loe and Digger Smith; also Cliff Morton for setting up and Peter Humphreys for running the bar.
There were numerous others who helped tear down at the end of play and the club thank them also.
The club have such a wonderful member group who are always willing to jump in and lend a hand when needed.
There was no bowls on Sunday, May 9 as it is a special day to be enjoyed and celebrated with our loved ones.
We hope you had a VERY SPECIAL HAPPY MOTHERS DAY with all those very special people past and present who have made such a wonderful difference to our lives individually and collectively as a community.
We are most grateful that you have been there to guide us and make us better people. THANK YOU.
Social Sets Play Tournament Final – Thursday, May 6
Once again a glorious sunny day presented an opportunity for the club to enjoy a great day of bowls and fellowship on the greens.
This was the business end of a four-week tournament and with good money up for grabs there was some serious bowls to be played.
Everyone who has played in this tournament has had only good things to say about it.
They loved the format (even the power play ends well, most loved the power play), and some have already signed up for the next Social Sets Play Tournament to begin on May 27 and run for following three consecutive Thursdays after that.
Please note that these games will start at 1pm with the roll up at 12.50pm.
Tournament Results:

Stay safe and good fellowship to all.
YMGCR Bowls
On Wednesday 33 players played 3 bowls pairs and there was 5 two game winners.
Coming out on top was the Green Machine in “GG” Green and the much improved Marie Morffew (it’s good to see Marie getting the results because she puts a lot of practice in and she seems to be also handling her new bowls well).
They had +24 shots and this week’s runners up with +18 were Rhonda Irvine and a visitor R Minato.
I (the scribe) would like to congratulate Danny and his match committee for having the capabilities to always accommodate any situation the crops up (getting a late entry a game).
During the week several teammates represented the OandM in the Bowls Victoria Championships and I’m glad to inform you that our team in the Ladies 4’s with Claire Sanders, Laureen Smith, Anne Miles and magnificently skipped by just a play in current World Champion of Champions ….Kylie Whitehead from Wodonga.
To get to the final they had to beat the favorites from Sandbelt; they had Tiffany Brodie, Courtney Gabb (both have played for Victoria), Kelly McKerrhen (Canadian International) and another Vic player in Lisa Phillips, but the local girls came out all guns blazing and they had a resounding win getting up 19/7.
In the final they had to play the Strzelecki team and after having a shocking start were trailing 1/9, but like the champs they are they fought back to level the scores at 9/9 all.
With all the momentum they then consolidated and began to draw away and they put the game away on the 16th end by picking up a 5 and they won 17/15.
In other results the Men’s 4’s with Sanders and the Lefevre boys had a good win in the first round but was put out in the second.
In the Mixed Pairs, Anne Miles and Wangaratta’s Ian Brimblecombe got through to the semifinals.
In the Ladies Pairs Claire Sanders and Anne Miles won their first game and will play their next game on Monday, so I hope I can bring some good news next week.
Don’t forget you have until tomorrow Thursday, May 13 to put in a nomination form for positions on the various committees.

Congratulations to one of the clubs younger members, Tyson Cromie on being nominated for the Bowls Victoria 2019/20 under 18 male player of the year.
You have done the club proud!
4 of the clubs members played in the Over 60’s Jack Edwards Day in Benalla recently and came 3rd .
They were beaten by 1 shot for second, a great effort considering there were about 40 teams that entered.
Well done to Brian Batty, John Ellis, Mick Dixon and Jim Barnes.
Another member, Peter McKay and a couple of his friends played in the Numurkah Winter Carnival and won the day. Well done Peter.
