The 20-year-old currently sits fourth in the F2 standings with 138 points after finishing sixth last year and expectations remain high for the young Aussie who finished third in the Formula 3 Championship as a Red Bull junior team driver in 2021.
While he has yet to achieve the success expected for Alpine's F2 team, Doohan doesn't see a benefit to returning to the junior circuit for a third year.
"My two years in Formula 2 haven't necessarily gone exactly to plan -- I'm sure everyone can tell you it never really does," he told the website f1i.com.
"But through that and through the bad moments, the highs and what's been in my control. I think I've done well and been able to show my capabilities."
Doohan, who is the son of five-time Moto GP World Champion Mick Doohan, said he still has a goal of earning a seat on the F1 grid in the future.
He is scheduled to get a second outing with Alpine's F1 car at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix next month.
"Doing another year of F2, if you win it, you're expected, and if you don't, you may as well... there's all to lose and not much to gain, so I think we're doing the right thing," he said.
"But the goal and trajectory is still Formula 1, and the team is still pushing for that, with me staying within the team and still pushing for that seat. This is my route, and I'm sure I'll get there."
