Once the busiest inland port in Australia, the Port of Echuca bristles with history and stories of days gone by.
Winter offers a different kind of experience, with crisp mornings and quiet riverfront views.
Daily cruising is a staple for The Port, with the historic PS Pevensey leaving the dock no less than four times each day.
In just one hour, you’ll get a taste of Echuca’s rich riverboat history with a side of adventure by asking the captain all of your questions.
Explore or kick back
On land, The Port’s Discovery Centre brings the history to life. Visitors can explore original wharf structures and steam engines, learn about Echuca’s role in the wool trade, and gain insight into how the river shaped the region’s development.
The daily walking tours offer a deeper look, with knowledgeable guides sharing stories that connect the past to the present.
The centre remains open with free entry, offering immersive displays, audiovisual storytelling and access to the working sawmill and steam exhibits.
It’s an easy, indoor option for cooler, wetter days.
If you prefer to just kick back on the wharf, have a drink and enjoy the sights, the precinct itself is a destination to explore at leisure, with many of the original buildings thoughtfully repurposed into boutique shops, cafés and local wineries.
Coming soon
The much-loved Echuca-Moama Winter Blues Festival returns on July 23 to 26, bringing the Port precinct to life with live music, warm hospitality and a vibrant community feel.
The festival draws visitors from across the country, but it’s just as much a celebration for locals, transforming the historic streets into a hub of energy across the weekend.
Families can also keep an eye out, with school holiday activities to be announced soon.
From interactive exhibits to creative play, it’ll be all about making history fun and accessible for younger visitors.
Whether it’s a morning walk along the wharf, a guided tour through history, or planning a return visit for the Winter Blues, there’s no better time to rediscover what’s on your doorstep.
