The Bulldogs currently sit at the bottom of the ladder without a win and a percentage of 31.83.
But club president Cam Scorey is optimistic about the club’s future and has heard no talk about it disbanding.
‘‘We have been hit hard of late with a lot of injuries, which has affected our player numbers, but nearly every footy club goes through what we are experiencing at the moment,’’ he said.
Scorey admitted it was a tough act filling senior and reserves sides each week at present, but was confident his club could recover and rebuild.
Scorey said it was difficult, but his club needed to try to field under-18 and under-15 teams next year to have a base for players to progress to the club’s senior ranks.
Merrigum has had 1090 points kicked against it in eight games this season while managing 347 points itself.
Its record isn’t likely to improve this Saturday when it hosts expected finalist Nagambie.
Big day for old Bombers
Kyabram shouldn’t be lacking any spectator support when it attempts to keep its unbeaten record intact this Saturday when it hosts Shepparton Swans.
Reunions of the Bombers’ 1965, 1985 and 1995 thirds premiership teams and the 1975 senior side are being held on the day.
And organisers said the response from premiership players intending to attend the reunion was pleasing and should ensure a memorable weekend.
One of the highlights will be an early afternoon meeting when coaches of these premiership sides will be interviewed by Tim Nelson.
Walker on big stage
Young Echuca football talent Cody Walker is representing Victoria Country in the National Under-18 Boys Championships.
The son of former Carlton star and Echuca coach Andrew Walker, Cody, who was named captain of the All-Australian under-16 side last year, is a bottom-aged player in the squad of 27 players.
Cody, Shepparton United export Riley Onley and Rochester’s recent recruit Harry Moon are the only GV players in the Vic Country squad, which played its first game in the series, played over two months, in Perth last Saturday.
It was a tight clash, with Western Australia defeating Vic Country by three points, 12.9 (81) to 11.12 (78).
In the most-anticipated game in the series, Vic Country meets Vic Metro on Sunday, July 20.
Moon, originally from Numurkah, switched to Rochester recently and has made the one appearance with the Tigers’ thirds, playing his other games this season with Murray Bushrangers.

The Tigers have been getting the job done each week without too much fuss and last Saturday inflicted the fifth successive defeat on last season’s grand finalist Shepparton.
That was Rochester’s eighth win for the season, which has kept it in second place on the ladder.
Most league observers, including yours truly, thought Shepparton may have rebounded in this game, but it found the men from Tigerland too good.
Rochester’s only loss was a narrow one against Shepparton Swans in round five.
Rochester meets flag aspirants Seymour, Kyabram and Echuca in its next three games, so just how good it is will be a much clearer picture.
