Connor Brown was a modest man accepting the Rohan Larkin Medal on Sunday.

Waaia’s rangy quick had just sweated it out in mid-30°C heat for five hours, bowled nine straight overs and had four wickets to show for it.

He probably just wanted a beer — and he wouldn’t have paid for a single stubby that night.

Brown’s rampaging spell at the start of the second innings split Central Park’s surging chase in two, with all four of his snares easily identifiable as the Tigers’ “big’’ wickets.

When asked what his secret was, Brown’s answer was simple.

“Line and length, boring cricket is how I operate,” he said.

“I probably bowled for a bit longer than I wanted to — the carcass is a bit sore now. But it was a good day and a good win.

“I know it’s only the one-day final for us, but (it’s) ticking our box halfway through the season and the big prize is yet to come in the two-day shield.”

Brown finished with figures of 4-26, taking the crucial scalps of Rhiley Lau (11), Jack McCarten (16), Tyler Larkin (28) and Connor Holland (18) before they could rip the game from Waaia’s grasp.

Yet, to Brown, Sunday’s triumph was only the entrée.

And there are no prizes for guessing what he and his Bombers mates consider the main course.

“We definitely can go all the way. There are still a lot of strong teams in the comp and, this week, there’s a few big games dictating what’s going to happen in finals,” he said.

“We’ll hopefully get the job done this next game and see how it all unfolds.”
