In Division 5 it was a Deniliquin Bowling Club versus Deniliquin RSL Bowling Club derby.
Division 5 capped off a very consistent season when they cruised to a very comfortable win over their RSL neighbours, 65 shots to 30.
Col Knuckey’s rink, including Tony King, Bill Young and Winnie Pattinson was under pressure all day before succumbing, 15 shots to 25, but the other rink told the story of the match.
Lloyd Ritchie called the shots for Mick Atley, Matt Crothers and Lee Pattinson on their way to a thumping 50 shots to five win, and ensured the overall 35 shot victory.
Deniliquin RSL conceded the DBC were simply far too good on the day, and congratulated their neighbours on a “well-deserved win”.
Deni RSL’s team one bowlers were Joanne Chick, John Hulm, Archie Webster and Lindsay Dalzell.
Team two bowlers for RSL were Graham Gordon, Peter Thommers, Wayne Bradley and Garry Hulm.
Deniliquin Bowling Club’s Division 2 came up against the strong Moama outfit, which had been the clear ladder leader all season.
But that stood for little on the day, as the Deniliquin side won on all three rinks to claim the overall 56-46 victory.
Ella Hipworth, Glenn Thomson, Bruce Clancy and Craig Hillier (skip) fought hard all day for their 22-18 win, while Bryan Kemnitz called the shots for Tony Danckert, Peter Todd and Steve King on their way to also claim a four shot victory, 16 shots to 12.
The final team of Chris Taylor, Jill Grimshaw, David Hessel and Rob Morris (skip) played out a seesawing affair before saving their best till late in clinching a two shot win, 18 shots to 16.
It is more than pertinent, and in no way disrespectful, to point out that this side was very fortunate to even make the finals after losing their last home and away game.
The other two teams on equal matches won were also both defeated in that final round, which left Deniliquin clinging to fourth place by a slender percentage.
To go all the way from there and claim the first silverware for the club since 2015 was a mighty team performance.
