While a team effort is crucial in football, sometimes it's the standout performances of a few players that can turn the tide of a match.

That’s the case with these five Goulburn Valley League players, who by the numbers have had the most statistically significant performances of the 2025 season.
Mark Marriott (Benalla)
The Saints ruckman wrote himself into local footy folklore against Mooroopna in round 10 with a feat seen on only four occasions in the data era.
Marriott’s headline piece in the 22-point win over the Cats was his historic 103 hit-outs, to go with 30 disposals, 25 contested possessions and 16 clearances.
The monumental tap-work netted him a season-high 253 ranking points, a figure that will be difficult to eclipse.
Mick Mattingly (Kyabram)

TheNews Player of the Month for May has helped inspire Kyabram to an unbeaten run stretching beyond the halfway mark of the season.
But in a season where the Bombers’ maestro is averaging 33 disposals, seven clearances and a goal a game, what stands out as his best performance to date?
By the numbers, his 42-disposal, 10-mark masterclass, coupled with a disposal efficiency of more than 80 per cent and three goals to sweeten the deal, had him comfortably down as Kyabram’s best in the round three rout of Benalla by 105 points.
Mattingly is a key piece of the puzzle for the flag favourite, which has benefitted from his experience and poise.

In a gritty encounter, you need your contested stars to stand up, which is precisely what Magpies young gun Cohen Paul did in his side’s thrilling four-point win over Benalla in round seven.
Paul had 22 contested possessions in a workmanlike outing, while also collecting 37 disposals and 14 marks, including a goal that, in such a tight contest, proved crucial as he claimed the Les Reed Medal for best-on-ground.
There’s plenty to like about the GVL interleague representative this season as his Magpies look to keep the pressure on the top six.

Madgwick is having some kind of three-week stretch.
The Cats’ midfielder tallied back-to-back games of 40-plus disposals before putting together his most destructive performance of the season against Tatura in round 11.
Mooroopna won to the tune of 108 points against the struggling Bulldogs and Madgwick was a significant part of that, tallying a season-high 53 disposals at 83 per cent efficiency.
He added 10 clearances and two goals for good measure to cap a dominant showing.
Nick Warnock (Benalla)

Warnock has been a sound pair of hands down back for the Saints, leading the league for marks with 105, as well as intercept marks with 69.
The game that best showcased his ability to read the ball in the air came against Tatura in round five.
Warnock chopped off 17 intercepts that day and used the ball at a ruthless efficiency of 90 per cent from his 29 disposals, spurring Benalla to a big win over the Bulldogs.
He’s a key piece in the Benalla puzzle in his first season of GVL action, evidenced by his inclusion to the interleague squad earlier this year.
