Suns won’t extend olive branch when Doves come to town

Returning their home record to the positive side of the ledger is what's at stake for Goulburn Valley Suns this weekend.

A romping display over Boroondara in round one was nullified by last weekend’s drama-soaked loss to Beaumaris.

And now the next obstacle for the side to overcome at McEwen Reserve is Doveton.

Thankfully for the Suns, Doveton arrives amid an early form slump.

The travelling side has lost both of its league matches and is smarting off the back of a midweek Australia Cup pasting, 5-1, at the hands of Dandenong City.

Regardless of recent scorelines, Suns coach Craig Carley is expecting the visitors to arrive with full force.

“Doveton are a quality, organised side with a lot of experience in their squad, so it’s going to be a very tough game,” he said.

“We need to be patient with the ball and stick to our game plan and hopefully we will be able to break down their resilient defence.”

Ironing out the creases and leaving a forgettable end to the Beaumaris outing in the past will be crucial in the Suns’ eyes.

Carley noted his outfit fell into the Sharks’ trap during the second half, lacking discipline while also failing to show their habitual ruthlessness at either end of the park.

The former factor has left the Suns down a starting option for Saturday.

The Suns will be without midfielder Jake Brocklebank for the clash after he received his marching orders against Beaumaris.

The blow has been sweetened by the re-entrance of Jamie England, who returns from injury to slot into the Suns’ engine room.

But on the medical front, the worst has been confirmed for Ury Fernandez.

The Spaniard went down in round one against Boroondara, with scans revealing a torn ACL, meniscus and broken leg.
