Shepparton Swimming Club was riding the crest of the wave on December 4 as it was finally able to host its long course carnival at Aquamoves once more.
The event welcomed 88 competitors from country and city clubs to hit the lanes for a range of disciplines.
Despite reduced numbers due to changes in the swimming calendar, competitors revelled in the stunning weather and seized the opportunity to compete after a year of interruptions.
“Coaches are all happy to have the kids dusting off their racing skills and having the opportunity to compete in a squad environment again after such a long break and enjoying the day out together as a team,” SSC head coach Michelle Swift said.
“We look forward to getting them race ready for long course countries and state sprints in January.”
Club president Laura Smithers-Shaw echoed Swift’s sentiment, thanking all involved — including Aquamoves — for helping the event reach fruition.
“It was great to finally host a successful carnival again after having a few shut down at the last minute over the last two years,” she said.
“Also, it was great to see the club pull together to host the event; these great days don’t happen without the support of so many volunteers.
“Aquamoves is a great venue for hosting swimming carnivals and the new heating system certainly has helped with competing and training regardless of conditions.”
