Five students managed to break eight Deniliquin High School records between them at last week’s athletics carnival.

Ollie Dellwo broke three records in the 12 years boys age group.
In the 800m, he broke the old record of 3:03.00 by three seconds with a time of 3:00.16.
In the discus he beat the previous distance of 19.80m by 3.19m with a successful throw of 22.99m.
He also broke a record that had stood for 22 years in the long jump, beating Matt Cameron’s 2003 record of 3.10m by 40cm with a jump of 3.50m.
There were two more boys records in the discus.
Jono Moorse broke the previous 13 years boys record of 24.40m by 93cm, with an throw of 25.33m.
In the under-16s, Connor Wilson broke the old record of 29.65m by 3.45m with a completed throw of 33.10m.
In the 14 years girls age group, Emma Wettenhall had two running records.
In the 100m, she broke the old record of 14.47 by five hundredths of a second, with the new record being 14.42.
In the 400m she broke the time of 1:16.00 by two seconds and four tenths, with a time of 1:14.60.
In the 17 year girls age group, Willow Lake broke Olivia Lee’s 2012 long jump record of 4m with a jump of 4.08m.
Students who did well in specific events qualify for the Riverina regional stage.
Following the combination of track and field events, the day finished with the girls and boys 100m sprint championships.
The two races were great spectacles, featuring the fastest six girls and six boys from the school’s carnival to crown two champions.
Emma Wettenhall and Luke Moorse took out the respective championship races.
With house points and pride still on the line, each of the three-year group stages had their house relays.
Following this was the hotly anticipated student versus teacher relay race.
Each of the houses and the teacher contingent had six runners in the race, and while the teachers were behind early on, they managed to come back and get a win over the students.
In the house competition, Edward took out first place with 1300 points, Kyalite was runner-up with 1077 points, Colligen finished third with 1033 points and Nyrangi rounded out the positions in fourth with 942 points.
The age champion results were as follows:
12 years: Boys - Ollie Dellwo; Girls - Macey Cathcart and Khoa Unwin.
13 years: Boys - Jono Moorse; Girls - Ella Charlton.
14 years: Boys - Logan Elphick; Girls - Emma Wettenhall.
15 years: Jake Harvey; Girls - Elka Connolly.
16 years: Boys - Luke Moorse; Girls - Sienna Elphick.
17 years and above: Boys - Kaan Ozmen; Girls - Willow Lake.
