Peter Raglus, his wife Kaylene and Peter’s brother John were recently guests at the Sheffield Shield final at St Kilda’s Junction Oval to receive their awards.
Peter has a 53-year history in local cricket, starting as a junior with the Rushworth Cricket Club in the 1970s before going on to play for 10 years with the Kyabram Cricket Clubs A-grade side where he was a key all-rounder and Melbourne Country Week representative, manager, selector and bus driver for nearly 40 years.
When the KDCA amalgamated with the Campaspe Cricket Association in 2012, Peter returned to his home town to play and along with his wife Kaylene helped administer and revive the Rushworth Cricket Club.
Peter is the current president of the club and has just completed another season as a player despite being 68 years of age.
He has been previously acknowledged for his tireless contribution to Victorian cricket by being awarded VCCL Hall Of Fame status.
His wife Kaylene has been his backstop for all those years and has been active in club and regional cricket.
And the man they call ‘Rags’, Peter Raglus, summed up his lengthy and dedicated service to the sport with “Wouldn’t swap it for anything.’’
Peter’s older brother John Raglus started his playing career with Rushworth juniors in the early 1970s and progressed to play Premier League Cricket with Prahan and suburban Melbourne clubs.
A feared fast bowler, he is still involved in an administrative position with Prahan Cricket Cub today, although he is living in his home town.
