Lockington

Great spring weather was enjoyed by golfers for the last weekend of competition golf at Lockington for the 2022 season during the weekend.

Saturday’s stableford round was a Money Day event, with the cash going to Darren Carnie, who returned the day’s best score of 33 points. Money also went to Grant Humbert, runner-up with 31, as well as Mat Dennis (30) and Terry Thomas (30).

Yardstick balls (next best scores) — Andrew Glatte, Jason Wakefield, Ash Portwine, Andrew Harris, Ray Brereton, Leigh Millard.

Nearest the pins: 3rd — Leigh Millard (Neangar Park); 2nd shot 9th — Mat Dennis (A), Andrew Glatte (B), Mark Lyons (C); 2nd shot 18th for the 6-pack smack — Grant Humbert.

Spike’s Longest Drive on the 1st, sponsored by Hot ‘n’ Cold Plumbing — Grant Humbert (A), Jeff Carnie (B), JD Wright (C). Neither the Echuca CIH eagles nest on the 3rd, nor Captain Bricka’s yardstick prize on the 7th was won.

Sunday’s 4-person ambrose saw a quality field, with victory to Brad Wakefield, Jason Wakefield, Terry Thomas and Ray Brereton, who returned the excellent score of 68-10.25-57.75.

Nearest the pins: 3rd — Darren Carnie; 7th — Kevin Humbert, 16th — Terry Thomas; 17th — Jason Wakefield.

Upcoming events: Saturday, October 8 — Presentation Night, 7/7.30 start, bring and share casserole tea. Tuesday, November 15 — AGM — 8pm.

Bamawn

A small field of players enjoyed the beautiful weather on Sunday and competed in a stableford round.

Winner of the men’s competition was Ben Newth with great score of 37 with Jeff Carnie runner up on 31 points.

Winner of the ladies competition was Mel Warren with 30 points.

The postponed ladies’ Tournament 4BBB Stableford event was held last Friday.

In ideal weather and the course being in great condition, good scores were expected and the Rich River team of Cath Kelly and Melva Howell did not disappoint with a good score of 45 Stableford points.

Runners-up were long-time visitors in Jan Conder and partner Lyn Delaney from Raywood on 44 points. The next best were recorded by the teams of Sheryl Lewien/Jacinta Blencowe from Quarry Hill (42), Sisters Louise Williams/Karen Ballantyne and Joan James/ Sue Slattery both on (41). NTP 5th (over tournament) Cate Ward, 12th Mel Warren, 3rd and 16th, Janine Miller, 8th Chris Pearce, Straight drive 10th Helen Ingram and Sheryl Lewien had the longest drive on 18

On Sunday the club ran a Stableford event with the choice of playing from the blue or forward markers, all the men played off the back markers while the women chose the forward yellow pegs.

The overall winner was Louise Williams on 36 points, Louise Eeles on 35, and former member Ken Lambert and Captain Des Gallagher on 35, other good scores were recorded by Robert Vise (34), Leigh Hicks and Graham Willis both on (33). Willis also was closest to the line on 10, while Louise Willaims won the nearest to the pin on 12. Wayne Williams had the best score of 42 points for the temporary handicap players.

Chris Eeles was the big winner at the club's 2022 presentation day held after the day’s event, Eeles won the B-Grade Championship, Singles match play final and the prestigious “Laurie Jackel consistency award”. Shane Bywaters took out the Men's Championship and the best 3 Stableford rounds, new member Dan Dockery was the winner for the best 3 Par rounds.

Louise Williams once again was crowned the Ladies Champion, Barb McCarthy was the handicap winner, and Jenny Major was thrilled to win the “Joy Blackman Award”, and daughter Karen Taylor the “Barb Lawford Award” for the best 3 strokes round.
