The Swans won two games in 2019 and finished a lowly 12th, but they improved considerably last year, ending the season with an 8-6 record.
They finished eighth on the Picola District Football League ladder and would have made the finals, had they gone ahead.
Senior coach Damien Kennedy said he hoped his side could continue to build on its recent improvement.
“We’ve maintained 90 per cent of our list and we’ve added a few to it, so we’re looking to improve more,” Kennedy said.
“We think we’re going to be more competitive this year, based on last year we are going to be a bit stronger again.”
He said the Swans would be aiming to finish somewhere in the fourth to sixth range.
“Playing finals is obviously our number one goal, but number two, if we could finish fourth that would be a great result,” Kennedy said.
Former local and ex-Katunga captain Brad Crowther is returning to the club this season as an assistant coach and Trent Baker is back after a season with Numurkah.
Corey Dunn — the brother of reigning Katunga best-and-fairest Jack – is another local returning to the club, having spent the past four years in the US as a punter for Iowa State University.
Kennedy said he’s also excited about a trio of youngsters, with Bailey Smith, Lachie O’Hara and Jackson Harris coming up from the club’s junior teams.
The club will be hoping it can continue to build on last season’s improvement as it looks to end a 37-year premiership drought.
