The championships were postponed from next week, April 6 to 10, to later in the month due to a COVID-19 outbreak in Queensland.
With extra training time, Shepparton Cycling Club star Edwards hopes to top his recent win at the state championships in February.
Edwards won the keirin medal for a motor-paced cycle sprint with a speed controlled start.
“I'm nervous, but excited as well,” Edwards said.
“I've always liked cycling, all different types.
“And I've met and raced all my teammates, I'm good mates with them now, we've bonded.”
This time around, Edwards will be participating in five of the six categories — the keirin, a 500m time trial, a 2km pursuit, a sprint match and a point score.
“I've been training over the past month, but wasn't expecting to go to nationals,” he said.
“COVID-19 got me back into riding, because I would've been swimming, but went back into riding last September, and did my first race at Christmas time.”
Edwards attended two training days in Melbourne in the past week to prepare for the upcoming championships.
When he reaches Brisbane, he's vying to beat the current record of 35.3 seconds in the 500m time trial.
“If we got more time to train for the 500m time trial, that's the main event I'm going for,” he said.
“I want to go close to the Australian record, or beat it.”
Notre Dame head of house Leanne Lemon has taught Edwards for two years and said she was always aware of his sporting talents.
“He's a lovely young man, the commitment he's had and the focus has been wonderful,” she said.
“I think his parents are impressed at the commitment he's given to it and the goals that he has.”
Edward's parents have driven him to Melbourne for four training sessions and supported him to train at the Shepparton velodrome during the week.
The 2021 Junior Track Championships will take place at the Anna Meares Velodrome in Brisbane.
