Following a stellar debut in the Border-Gavaskar series, Murphy’s maiden full-time contract has the 22-year-old spin sensation poised to expand on his excellent start to life in international cricket.
Murphy’s spot was announced on Thursday, when he was elevated alongside speedster Lance Morris.
The announcement has Murphy in the frame to contribute in a crucial period for Australian cricket, with national selector George Bailey saying the 24 players selected will form the nucleus of Australia’s World Test Championship, Ashes and ODI World Cup campaigns, all of which will occur this year.
Murphy claimed 14 wickets at an average of 25 in his first Test series, announcing himself as one of the nation’s best spin prospects going forward.
