Two centuries from a Kyabram Fire Brigade duo, including a historic effort from Flames legend Paul Newman, headline this week’s team.
Paul Newman (Kyabram Fire Brigade) — 214 not out
The Flames master blaster had a historic innings against Nondies-Cohuna at the weekend.
Newman cracked the second highest A-grade total of the Goulburn Murray Cricket era with 214 runs off just 123 deliveries, blasting 22 fours and 15 sixes to help Kyabram post 4-402 in a monstrous display of batting.
It’s far and away the highest score of the season and one of the most destructive innings in recent memory.
Brett Andison (Kyabram Fire Brigade) — 115 runs
It was a rough old day for the Nondies-Cohuna bowling attack.
Before Newman strode to the crease, Andison was already doing significant damage, pummelling 14 boundaries en route to a score of 115 off 112 deliveries, posting a 229-run partnership with Newman before departing to the bowling of Leigh Johnson.
Rathika Rajakumara (Echuca South) — 48 runs
Rajakumara has enjoyed a consistent season for the Swans.
Scores of 56, 60, and 26 have been the sum of his previous three knocks before his 48-run effort against Cooma at the weekend, playing a solid innings to helpa stumbling Swans line-up reach 144.
Archie Sussex (Nondies-Cohuna) — 45 runs
The Welshman is beginning to settle into his groove.
After hitting 70 last week, Sussex top-scored with 45 off 26 deliveries in his sides chase of Kyabram’s 402.
Jordan McGregor (Moama) — 4-6
Outside of the top three of this edition of Team of the Week, round seven belonged to the bowlers.
And Moama’s Jordan McGregor was one of those who was on the mark.
The consistent paceman was all over Tongala early doors, ending with figures of 4-6 off eight overs including three maidens.
Ben Eade (Echuca South) — 4-8
The Swans skipper also found himself settling into a nice groove in his side’s clash against Cooma.
Defending 144, Eade led from the front with his spin variety, snaring four wickets for just eight runs, stifling the Cooma line-up with five maidens.
Michael Hill (Moama) 2-9 and 21 not out
The competition’s leading wicket-taker retained his place at the top of the rankings with two wickets and a quickfire 21 to help Moama to a comfortable win.
Xavier Fawcett (Cooma) — 3-21
The Two Blues bowler was on the mark to help Cooma restrict Echuca South to 144.
Fawcett claimed 3-21 off his nine overs, including the wickets of the dangerous Jayden Rosin and Asantha Singappuli.
Patrick Doyle (Nondies-Cohuna) — 40 runs
Another gallant innings in the face of a big run chase.
Doyle made 40 and formed a 59-run partnership with Sussex to give Nondies-Cohuna a glimmer of hope.
Ethan Palma-Ludeman (Cooma) — 3-33
The Cooma vice-captain chimed in with the invaluable wicket of set bat Rathika Rajakumara and ended with 3-33 off his 7.4 overs.
