The 13-year-old tough-as-teak defender is representing Victoria in the National Indigenous Netball Championships which have started in Tallebudgera, Queensland, and conclude on January 7.
Maggie was originally selected in the 14-and-under state team for the championships but has been elevated to the 16-and-under side which plays all other Australian states in the titles.
During this tournament Maggie will also be trialling for the Australian side, to potentially represent her country in an international overseas tournament to be held in 2024 against teams from other Commonwealth countries.
Maggie was also recently selected in the Bendigo Sports Academy North East Program’s 15-and-under netball side.
Last year Maggie played with Tongala’s under-15 side in the Murray League as a defender and came runner-up in the club’s best-and-fairest award.
She wasn’t old enough last year to play in the GVL with Kyabram, where her father John is president, but will be playing for the Bombers this year in the 15-and-under side.
Before she left for Queensland, Maggie thanked all her sponsors, including her major sponsors Kyabram Discounts and the Aldara Yenara Aboriginal Corporation.
Other sponsors to support Maggie on her trip are:
Majors IGA Rochester, Salters Panel Works, Shepparton Stainless Steel, Sipsy Vessel Co & Nushade Blinds, Kyabram Lions Club, Atkins Family, B&D Holmes, The Wash Bar Mooroopna and Hurley’s Hotel Kyabram.
