Collingwood AFL players Beau McCreery and Jamie Elliott will be making an appearance at Redlegs Stadium on Wednesday, July 16, running a clinic for juniors before hosting a Q&A inside the Longwood social rooms.
McCreery, 24, has burst onto the scene in the last few years with his speed and pressure on the football in the forward line, while Elliott, 32, is in career-best form in Collingwood’s ladder-leading side, already surpassing his highest goalkicking tally in a season this month.
Both players featured in the Magpies’ 2023 premiership side.
Elliott, who is a Euroa local with family ties to the Redlegs, is a welcome inclusion to the Collingwood clinic, with president Ricki Shiner hoping the Magpie’s journey from the country to the big league will be extra inspiring to the budding footballers living in the Goulburn Valley region.
“Jamie’s got good connections here which is great; his sister (Caitlyn Elliott) played netball here a few years back,” Shiner said.
“For us to have a couple of AFL players is fantastic, but for one of them to have real solid local connections is even better.
“To effectively train with an AFL player is a massive deal for kids and something that probably doesn’t happen enough these days.
“For the local kids to have that connection and see that they can do the same thing, go from a small country club to playing AFL, it’s a pretty good connection to have.”
Training is slotted in at 4:15pm and will wrap up around 90 minutes later, before a Q&A session where anyone is welcome to attend will commence, followed by photo and signature opportunities with the Magpies forwards.
Registration for the training session is now open.
