Held at the Bendigo East Bowling Club, the tournament kicked off on Saturday, April 30, with games played until Saturday, May 7, and the Goulburn Murray Bowls Region was well represented across the week.
A highlight for the region’s contingent was the Women’s Pairs Final, with Jenny Warfe and Loris Houlihan making it all the way to the big dance.
Unfortunately for the Goulburn Murray duo, their opponents from Sandbelt were too strong on the day. However, after playing some quality bowls to make the finals there is plenty to be proud of for the duo.
In the Men’s Singles, Tallygaroopna’s David Daws got himself into a semi-final, falling to Northern Gateway’s Thoraedahl Shannon.
Shannon took out the contest 17-25, with Daws’s opponent a class above.
This was not the only semi-final appearance for Daws across the week, with the star combining with Matt Robertson and Brett Wright in the Men’s Triples.
The trio was unlucky to fall to a quality Metro West side, with West taking out the contest with a score of 11-18.
While not everyone who competed made it through the knockout rounds, it was certainly a successful week for the region, with teams competing in all of the events.
In the Women’s Triples, Dianne Downie, Naomi Cartwright and Olivia Cartwright represented the region, while Taylor Hills suited up in the Novice Women's Singles.
Jono Thorne competed in the Novice Men's Singles, while Christine Dunn, Carol Mathers, Kerry Baldacchino and Marjorie McDonald played Women's Fours and Mitch Sidebottom, Mark Ryan, Matthew Robertson and David Daws battled it out in the Men's.
In the Men's Pairs, Wayne Dagger and Bradley Orr did their best, while in the Mixed Pairs Diane Hands and Matthew Robertson were in the action.
Goulburn Murray also entered participants in the Men’s and Women’s Champion of Champions Singles, with Stacey Collier competing in the women’s and Paul Glanvill in the men’s.
