In what started as a low-scoring tussle, the Lions assumed control of proceedings as the contest wore on at Mooroopna Recreation Reserve on the back of some quality defensive work.
After a superb 2022, featuring 12 wins and just two losses, Stanhope coaches Shanae Fisher and Olivia Quattrochi said to end the season in the manner the side did was credit to its hard work and determination year-round.
“It’s icing on the cake now. The girls have won a lot of games this year and have worked so hard, it’s so good to get the final one done,” Fisher said.
Jenna Quattrochi was pivotal to the Lions’ surge from her role in goal defence, coming up with rebound after rebound and setting her side up in transition.
Her performance saw her walk away with a best-on-court medal.
At the other end of the court, goal attack and captain Matilda Schubach put in a superb performance, finishing off the fine work from her mid-courters and defenders.
Quattrochi said her side had gone from strength to strength this year and the team unity and chemistry was on full display in the grand final triumph.
“The girls have improved so much since round one. They’ve all improved — individually and as a team,” Quattrochi said.
“And today they stepped up and got the job done.”
