The former Goulburn Valley League Shepparton Swans coach will take the reins of his long time cricket club Katandra in season 2026-27, as the Eagles look to respond from a finals-less campaign last summer.
Wright has long been a stalwart of the Haisman Shield side, captaining the club in 2023-24 and last playing in the 2024-25 season.
He averaged 34.6 runs per game in his last campaign with Katandra.
Wright will be aided by another long time Eagles teammate and football associate at the Swans in Andrew Riordan as assistant coach too, who too last featured on the field in 2024-25.
The club also thanked outgoing coach Ryleigh Shannon for his stint as coach, as it announced the handover on Wednesday.
“We’d like to thank Ryleigh Shannon for his commitment over the past three seasons as senior coach of the Eagles,” the post read.
“Ryleigh has been a strong voice around the club and played an important role in implementing positive structures within our senior program.
“The last two seasons presented plenty of challenges, with injuries, player availability and Ryleigh himself coaching after suffering a serious knee injury.
“Despite that, he continued to put the club first and gave everything he had to the role.
“His dedication and commitment to Katandra Cricket Club has never gone unnoticed, and we’re extremely grateful for everything he’s contributed over the past three years.
“We’re excited to announce that Jedd Wright will take over as senior coach for the 2026/27 season.
“Jedd brings an outstanding cricket and all round coaching resume, along with a wealth of knowledge, experience and leadership.
“His understanding of the game, competitive nature and passion for the club make him an ideal person to lead our senior playing group into the new season.
“Assisting Jedd will be Andrew Riordan, another highly respected figure within the competition.
“Andrew’s experience, cricket knowledge and calm approach will be a tremendous asset, and we’re thrilled to have him working alongside Jedd as we continue building towards the season ahead.”
In other cricket news, Katamatite Cricket Club will welcome an upgraded scoreboard to its home deck in the summer.
In collaboration with the town’s football club, the Tigers have funded for a new screen at its recreation reserve.
“The cricket club has provided financial help with this project to ensure our sponsors get great value for money with constant promotion as well as being able to have community movie nights on the big screen in the summer months,” the club stated on Facebook.
“With the purchase of a new mower last year and now with the scoreboard both football and cricket clubs will continue to keep improving our facilities for the Katamatite community.”
