The Under-13s took on Boomers, who finished third on the ladder at the end of the home and away season. The Cobram boys finished second, so this was set up for a good game.
Cobram took the lead early through a goal from Knox Leonard. After this goal, the Roar settled into their game and dominated the Boomers team.
Goal one was quickly followed by three others before the break, with Cameron Harb scoring a screamer from the halfway line.
The second half kicked off with Boomers pressing early, and the Albury side managed to get one past Cobram goalkeeper Andy Smallwood.
Cobram was quick to respond with one more goal, eventually winning the match 5-1 to secure a spot in the grand final.
Goal scorers: Knox Leonard 2, Kohen Haddrell 2, Cameron Harb 1.
Elsewhere, it was heartbreak for the senior women’s Division One side, which fell 2-0 to Melrose FC.
After finishing third on the ladder, and winning through to the semi-final after a superb 7-0 rout of Wodonga Diamonds in the previous week’s qualifying final, the Roar were unable to match it with the second-placed Melrose, who now take on the all-conquering Albury Hotspurs in the grand final.
The Under-14 girls side also narrowly missed winning through to the grand final, going down 2-0 in a tight affair against Albury Hotspurs.
A high-scoring affair saw the Under-14 boys fall agonisingly short against Wodonga Diamonds, losing 4-3 in what was a brilliant match.
Tyler Stone fired home two goals, while Cameron Harb rounded out the scoring with one of his own; however, it wasn’t enough to drag their side over the line.
The Albury-Wodonga Football Association grand finals are this Saturday at Lavington Sports Ground.
U12 Black kicks off at 9am and the U13s kick off at 10:20am. Everyone at Cobram Roar wishes our players success in the final.
