The Bulldogs were sixth at the season’s early end and were overseen by Georgia Ryan, who, due to other commitments, is unable to commit to coaching in 2022.
Tatura’s newest mentor knows the platform she has been handed, and is raring to build on the foundations Ryan has put in place during the past few years.
“I’m very excited to continue on from where Georgia left off,” Boyer said.
“Unfortunately, she was unable to commit due to work commitments and the possibility of a relocation, but I am set up with a great platform for sure.”
The incoming leader is joined by two assistants — one is Steph Smith-Gorrie, the other happens to be Boyer’s daughter Elsie.
With both boasting Victorian Netball League nous and bags of talent, Boyer said the three-pronged coaching unit would use each other as sounding boards in order to get the best out of the current squad.
“What I’m hoping for is to spread the load so that there’s not just one person taking on all the coaching responsibilities,” she said.
“I wouldn’t take on the role on my own; I like the idea of having a team working together so there are people to bounce ideas off.
“Both Steph (Boroondara Express) and Elsie (City West Falcons) are connected to VNL clubs, so we’ll be looking to link the information they’ve taken in down there into our trainings.”
It’s far from Boyer’s first rodeo coaching A-grade netball.
Having previously stood behind the wheel at Undera, Boyer felt the step up to Goulburn Valley League level had arrived at an opportune time.
“I think it is the right time to (coach Tatura), and with Elsie moving into the senior side it has just coincided well,” she said.
“It is pretty special to be able to spend more positive time with my daughter, so I certainly won’t be complaining about that.”
Elsie is one of many young starlets at Tatura with a bright future in the game.
Boyer made it clear investing in the Bulldogs’ youth stocks was prominent on her agenda — but indicated a post-season appearance also ranked high on her list of priorities.
“One of my passions is to support the development of the junior talent we have in Tatura,” she said.
“Hopefully we can push on and consolidate a spot in the top six and play finals next season.”
