The meeting will be held at the Deniliquin Lawn Tennis Club clubrooms in Charlotte St from 11am this Sunday, December 3 (note, the venue has been changed due to this week’s heavy rain and access issues at the racecourse).
After a tough few years due to COVID-19, then floods, 2023 has been a stand-out for the local racing club.
It has held two very successful meetings and there is strong interest in racing across the community.
President Greg Danckert said current Racing Club members and anyone interested in local racing is encouraged to attend the AGM.
“We want 2023 to be a foundation on which to build ongoing success for the club,” Danckert said.
“In particular, we would like to see some younger members of our community getting involved.
“Horse racing is a lot of fun, and in recent times it’s a sport which has attracted increased participation from young people who appreciate both the racing and the social aspect.
“If you are in this group, we’d love to see you on Sunday,” he said.
The meeting will elect office bearers for the next 12 months and is also keen to fill a couple of specific vacancies.
Firstly, it needs a person who will take on the role of race day entertainment coordinator, whose duties will include working with sponsors and guests to ensure their marquee and race day requirements are met.
The club is also seeking someone with the skills to manage its social media platforms throughout the year and help the club increase its communication with members and the general community.
“While our communication has generally been strong, as evidenced by the excellent crowds at both our April and October meetings, we need someone who can improve our exposure across social media, which has become such an important part of communication,” Danckert said.
During the year the club has been working on projects to improve the racecourse and surrounding amenities, and wants to continue these improvements in 2024.
“We are delighted with the ongoing development of our racing surface, making it very safe and fair for horses, jockeys and race goers. The positive feedback we received from NSW Racing stewards, owners, trainers and jockeys was excellent.
“In the next year we aim to continue addressing drainage issues which exist across our complex.
“We have a dedicated, hard-working committee and other volunteers who assist in various ways.
“It is important that we elect a new committee on Sunday to continue this good work,” Danckert said.
Everyone is welcome to attend Sunday’s AGM, which will be followed by light refreshments.
Anyone seeking further information on the racing club, or willing to help in any capacity, is encouraged to phone 0427 221 011.
