Named in recognition of junior coach David Cartwright, 40 juniors from 20 clubs played the format of seven games of 10 ends throughout the weekend.
A star-studded line-up had state and national champions contest the event.
Victoria under-18 state singles winners Koby Cromie and Gracie Retallick, as well as Goulburn Valley players Joshua and Jacob Cartwright and Charlie Boswood made the trip for the event.
City of Greater Shepparton Deputy Mayor Anthony Brophy was on hand to assist with presentations.
After the first day’s play only one team combined well to take all four wins.
The rink skipped by Wunghnu’s Josh Cartwright started well, claiming victory over Boswood’s rink to start proceedings.
With new bowlers combining with more experienced players and teams mixing from all parts of Victoria certainly made for a competitive event.
Day two started off somewhat colder for the 18-and-under event with the undercover venue at Shepparton Park providing some relief.
With three more games to come it was tightly contested.
Cartwright in his last game was 5 -0 down before making a comeback to take the win and maintain his unbeaten record to also secure the event.
Cartwright’s team consisted of Cromie (Yarrawonga/Essendon), Ava Nicholl (Parkdale) and Micah Oswin (Victoria Bowling Club) claiming all seven wins throughout the tournament.
The runner-up team, skipped by Charlie Boswood (Kyabram/Port Melbourne) consisted of Jacob Cartwright (Wunghnu), Harry Coleman (Deer Park) and Jack Wardrope (Elwood).
Third went to the rink skipped by Nick Rowley (Bendigo), Henry Boswood (Kyabram/Port Melbourne), Marli Malcolm (Mitcham) and Ayla Romanin (Paynesville).
Best winning margins went to Landen Randell, Emily Parson, Hunter O’Brien and Mac Campbell, Bailey and Kayla Jackson and Liam and Oliver McInnes, Bayden Parkinson, Riley Cameron, Taiia Devlin and Sarah Williams.
The event also provided a great training session for the number of juniors playing in the upcoming Australian Open and School Bowls Championships and is set for the 2026 calendar of events.
The event was generously supported by Shepparton Club, City of Greater Shepparton, Jen’s Hens, GMCU and GV Water.
Runners-up Charlie Boswood, Jack Wardrope, Jacob Cartwright and Harry Coleman.
