The SYC Yellow contingent is celebrating clinching the Goulburn Valley Hockey Association Men’s League minor premiership - after their interclub rival failed to win in the final round of the home-and-away campaign.

The race for the title crown has made for compelling viewing in recent weeks, setting up a winner-takes-all shootout in week 14 on the weekend of August 22, as three Shepparton sides aimed to snatch the spoils.
Having gone unbeaten heading into the curtain-closer against the third-placed Shepparton Strikers Red, the invincible Yellows maintained their perfect record for the term as they saw out a 2-2 draw down at Shepparton Regional Hockey Complex.
Meanwhile, SYC Blue surrendered the chance to snatch the title at the expense of its interclub rival after dropping points against Echuca-Moama as they too played out a 2-2 stalemate.
With the Yellows having secured the minor premiership, the Blues had to settle for second place in the standings, while the Strikers Red and Strikers Blue secured third and fourth spots, respectively.
That means that the men’s finals - which begin with the semi-finals on August 29 - will be an all-Shepparton affair.
Echuca-Moama, despite valiant efforts, finished in fifth place in the standings, as they missed out on finals, while Goulburn Valley Grammar School and Mooroopna rounded out the league table.
Now, attention will turn to the GVHA Men’s semi-finals, with SYC Yellow pitted against derby opponents SYC Blue, as the Strikers Red and Blue also have the opportunity to advance at the expense of their interclub counterparts on August 29.
Elsewhere in the GVHA Women’s round 14 draw, the Shepparton Strikers defeated SYC, 3-0, while Mooroopna won 2-1 against Echuca-Moama.
