More than 30 students from schools across the region attended Shepparton Croquet Club for the action-packed day.
Students from Goulburn Valley Grammar School, Euroa Secondary College, Moama Anglican Grammar School and Numurkah Secondary College attended the day-long event.
The croquet courts, set up by Peter Watson and his helper Donny Serafini, were in pristine condition and weren't affected by the heavy rains of the past months.
Due to the floods Moama and Euroa had been unable to attend practice, but the students soon got into the swing of things and their play improved immensely.
First time winner was the team from Goulburn Valley Grammar School, which had tried so hard to win by as many hoops as it could, because the last time it played it lost by one hoop.
Croquet Victoria president Kate Patrick and GVCA president Leah Grant presented the winning medals to the victors.
Runner-up went to first-time entrant Moama Anglican Grammar School, very ably coached by Dave Maher from Rich River Croquet Club.
Numurkah Secondary College was given a special mention and congratulations on the way it so enthusiastically played with sheer concentration and skill, after only learning the game in a short period.
What makes this day so successful is the support from teachers of each school, such as Angela Whitlock (GVGS), Lachlan Cooke (Euroa), Anthony McMahon (Moama) and Danusia Sipa Borgeaud (Numurkah) as they organise the teams to play and are the main contact between the organisations.
Massive thanks to Goulburn Murray Credit Union for sponsoring the day’s proceedings. - By Trudy Serafini.
