The Echuca Moama Border Raiders women’s side has suffered just its second defeat of the season in the Bendigo Amateur Soccer League 2, falling to Golden City White in a tight contest at Jack Eddy Oval.

Echuca Moama was on the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline after Mia Dean made the important breakthrough for Golden City mid-way through the first half.

The Border Raiders had a number of opportunities to strike back but couldn’t find the elusive goal required to salvage a point.

With four rounds to go, it’s a tight three-team race for the regular season premiership and the promotion to League 1 that comes with it.

The Border Raiders are on 30 points, with Castlemaine Goldfields (29) and Golden City White (28), both within a single win of the top.

After a bye last weekend, Echuca Moama does hold an important game in hand over both of those sides, while Castlemaine Godlfields has the benefit of the best goal differential of the three teams.

The Border Raiders’ next assignment is a trip to Kyneton on Sunday to battle Kyneton District.

Echuca Moama’s men’s team was awarded the three points after Golden City Black forfeited their scheduled fixture.

With three points out of fourth place, the side has the opportunity to close that gap as it takes advantage of its game in hand as it travels to Deniliquin for a previously rescheduled fixture with Deniliquin Wanderers.
