There was plenty of precipitation about at the weekend, but it turns out it was also raining goals in the Central Victorian League One men’s competition as well.

Shepparton United, Shepparton South and Tatura were big winners in round two of the new season, scoring a massive 22 goals between them.

Shepparton South was the biggest winner of the round, demolishing Epsom 10-0 at McEwen Reserve on Sunday.

The host was up 5-0 at half-time, adding another five goals after the break.

Joel Aitken and Sean Grant were on fire up top, netting five and four goals respectively.

Nicholas Mori was the other goal scorer for South.

The result was South’s fourth double-digit victory since the start of last season, and has the club sitting pretty on top of the ladder.

Just behind South in second place is Shepparton United, itself coming off a resounding 7-1 result against Spring Gully United on Saturday.

Goals from Toby Azhar, Ermal Marku and two from Ryan Brooks had United 4-0 up after 35 minutes, before Spring Gully pegged one back just before half-time.

Shepp United resumed its domination in the second half – Brooks netted his third and fourth goals of the day, while Azhar collected his second.

The win was United’s second positive result to start the season, following a 4-1 triumph over Eaglehawk in round one.

Tatura tasted victory in the league for the first time in 2023 after topping Strathdale 5-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The Ibises fell to South 3-1 in the season opener, but bounced back in emphatic fashion with a strong display following the Easter break.

Christian Corso broke the deadlock in the first half, netting the opener in the 12th minute.

It was a tight contest for the remainder of the opening half, however, with Corso’s breakthrough the difference between the two teams at the break.

Strathdale had managed to contain Tatura up to that point, but the Ibises broke free in the second half.

Tatura slotted home a further four goals, with Thomas Leech, Zachary Ferlauto, Cody Sellwood and Tristan Zito converting.

The Ibises round out the competition’s top three, with the Greater Shepparton teams leading the way in the early going.

Eaglehawk defeated Strathfieldsaye Colts United 1-0 in the weekend’s other league one game.

In league two, Shepparton was handed its first loss of the year after falling to Golden City 6-1.

An early onslaught blew Shepparton out of the water, with Golden City up 5-0 after 25 minutes.

Fortunately for Shepparton, the side was able to stem the bleeding from there.

Mohamed Al Fatelawi opened his account with his first goal of the year later in the first half, with a sixth goal for City in the second 45 completing the result.
