The Magpies overcame a competitive opening half from the Bulldogs before breaking the game open after the main break, eventually cruising to a 12.9 (81) to 5.9 (39) victory on home soil.
Tatura struck first through Sean Johns and remained firmly in the contest throughout the opening quarter, trailing by nine points at the first break despite Euroa creating plenty of forward opportunities.
Jett Trotter and Zac Gleeson provided the early spark for the home side at Euroa Memorial Oval with three goals apiece, while Cohen Paul added two majors in a lively attacking performance.
The Bulldogs continued to apply pressure in the second term and briefly threatened to close the gap through Ben Darrou and Jess Petherick, with Tatura narrowing the margin to four points midway through the quarter.
However, Euroa steadied through the composure of its experienced core, taking a 29-24 lead into the main break before producing its most complete football of the afternoon in the premiership quarter.
The Magpies slammed on 4.3 to 0.2 in the third term, with Jacob Gleeson, Cohen Paul and Nate Trotter hitting the scoreboard as the home side’s midfield began to gain ascendancy around the stoppages.
Euroa’s pressure and efficiency going inside 50 proved too much for the Bulldogs to handle, as the margin ballooned beyond five goals heading into the final quarter.
Despite Tatura battling hard through Ryan Young and Harry Murdoch late in the contest, the Magpies maintained complete control, kicking the opening two goals of the last quarter through Zac Gleeson and Jett Trotter to extinguish any hopes of a Bulldogs comeback.
Zac Gleeson, Jett Trotter and Nate Trotter each finished with three goals for Euroa, while Cohen Paul chipped in with two in an impressive team display.
Magpies ace Paul was pleased with the overall performance on the day from an individual and collective perspective.
“It was a good performance from the team, it was great to come away with the win,” he said.
“We knew before the game that Tatura would come and bring a good fight and they probably had pencilled us in for a win – which would have been their first win in a while.
“It was one of those where we had to slog it out in wet conditions and it was a case of us fighting it out – getting it over the line was incredible.
“Jett Trotter, our captain, led from the front with goals and had a really good game and then Jacob Gleeson in the midfield dominated during the whole game.
“There’s such a big difference between winning and losing and how that can affect connection, you build so much more connection through winning.
“We’ve had two wins on the trot now and we’ve got a really big game next week against Echuca, who are a really good team – but we’ll go in there with confidence and see how we go.”
The victory means Euroa is beginning to find its groove, with this second successive win demonstrating a return to form after a string of defeats early in the campaign.
Tatura will look to regroup ahead of another important clash in round nine against Shepparton Swans, while the Magpies will look to spoil the party against a high-flying Echuca.
