For its first home game of the year and hot off the back of its eight-point victory over Tatura last month, Barooga’s women’s outfit hosted Echuca in round seven of the Northern Country Women’s League.
Echuca led early in the first term, booting 2.2 to Barooga’s 0.1, before the quarter-time siren sounded. After adding two majors to the scoreboard, the Hawks finished the first half trailing Echuca by eight points, 2.2 to the visitors’ 3.4.
Tight defensive pressure around the ball kept the hosts scoreless in the second half until a fourth-quarter major took the Hawks to within a four-goal margin at full-time.
The final siren saw the scoreline read Barooga 3.2 (30) to Echuca’s 6.7 (43).
Best-on-ground for Barooga went to Sammy Rourke, Maree Stephenson, Tameisha Kelly, Isabella De Vincentis, Dakini Hall and Kitty Nadugu.
Meanwhile, Barooga’s Youth Girls took on a dominant Nathalia outfit, falling by 67 points, 1.1 (7) to Nathalia’s 12.2 (74).
Evelyn McCallum, Chloe Rorato, Taylor Waldron, Philippa Bain, Charlotte Cherry and Lexie McCallum were named Barooga’s best-on-ground.
